GRADE 4
2007-2008
Mrs. Rossi

Pre-Kindergarten Kindergarten Spanish Music

 Welcome!

During the month of March, we will be reading the book Holes. It’s a story about Stanley Yelnats who is under a curse thanks to his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather. Stanley lands in a boys’ detention center where there are some very unusual things going on! The students will be sure to love this story because it takes a lot of interesting twists and turns!

During March, we will also be reading an excerpt from an Encyclopedia Brown mystery story. Encyclopedia Brown is a boy with a mind like an encyclopedia who solves mysteries on a regular basis.

In Social Studies, we will be learning about early explorers who discovered the Americas and explored the New Jersey area. We will also be delving into the French and Indian War.

In Science, we will continue our studies of the nature of water. We will be learning about the presence of water in living things, life under the water, and about saltwater habitats. Of course, we will be doing little mini activities and experiments, which the students always have fun doing!

In Math, we are wrapping up a review of basic multiplication and division concepts, as well as, the basic facts. Next, we will be multiplying 1, 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers by a 1-digit number. Additional practice in using calculator and solving word problems will be incorporated also.

In March, we are looking forward to two assemblies. One is a presentation by Chinese acrobats and the other is called The Ned Show. The NED Show promotes academic achievement and character development by teaching three critical skills that will benefit kids for a lifetime while entertaining them with dazzling yoyo tricks:

 Never Give Up

Encourage Others

Do Your Best

 Math Goal for January

Keep practicing those multiplication facts; especially the 7’s through 12’s!
