GRADE 3

Pre-Kindergarten Kindergarten Spanish Music

Mrs. Frank's third grade class is getting ready for the Academic Fair.  In Social Studies the children have been studying communities.  We will be creating a town by making dioramas.  Each child was assigned a certain building to design.  When all the buildings have been turned in, we will put them all together to create "KIDSTOWN.''

As part of our reading curriculum, we have been reading chapter books.  We have finished reading Charlotte's Web and are currently reading Sarah, Plain and Tall.  Next, we will move on to Ramona Forever and Rent a Third Grader.

Our math lessons currently involve subtracting 2-digit numbers, 3-digit numbers, and 4-digit numbers with regrouping.  We will soon learn our multiplication tables.

In Science we are learning all about planets, sandy soil, clay soil and loam.  We are also studying the water cycle and how different types of precipitation fall from clouds.

Language Arts is getting more intense as we learn about singular and plural nouns, pronouns and possessives.  We are also keeping up on verbs, adjectives and nouns.

We are doing a Chapel service on January 23rd.  Since it is Epiphany, we will be reading The Good Samaritan story from the Bible.  We will follow it up with a skit and a prayer.  The fifth graders will be helping us out.

We are still learning a lot of new vocabulary words, their meanings, and what part of speech the word is.  Our Tic-Tac-Toe games really help the children retain this information.

In Handwriting, we are almost finished learning the uppercase cursive letters.  The children already know how to write the lowercase letters and are now writing their spelling words in cursive.  By the end of January, they will be able to write any assignment entirely in cursive.
